The Ion drive is the pinnacle of reaction engines.
Using a series of high-energy magnetic fields, the Ion engine induces hugely disparate electrical charges and applies them to tiny quanties of fuel which in turn is ionised (hence the name) and hurled out of the engine at near relativistic speeds creating motive power, essentially making this engine little more than a high-tech rocket.
